When the follow-up instruction is due
If you work with perishable food, German law (§43 para. 4 IfSG) requires a refresher of your initial instruction every 2 years. Your employer must document it. Many companies handle it internally – if yours leaves it to you, or you are self-employed, you can complete it here online.

What is the difference to the initial instruction (Erstbelehrung)?+
The initial instruction (25 €) is done once before your first job involving food. The follow-up instruction (15 €) is the refresher required every 2 years while you are employed.
My last instruction was more than 2 years ago – what now?+
Simply do the follow-up instruction now. The new proof documents that you have been refreshed – your employer files it, and you are covered again for inspections.
